James Kopp brings over 20 years of senior management experience in both private and public higher education institutions. He served as Chief Housing Officer at the University of Maine at Machias and later held Assistant and Associate Dean roles at Keuka College. While at Keuka, he secured one of the largest grants awarded by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education and developed an innovative harm-reduction model addressing student alcohol and drug abuse.
James went on to serve as Associate Dean at Knox College, followed by roles as Dean and later Vice President at Green Mountain College. Most recently, he held the position of Executive Director for Institutional Advancement at Union College – Albany College of Pharmacy.
Throughout his career, James has been actively involved in association leadership, serving as Vice President of the New York, Illinois, and Vermont chapters of the American College Personnel Association. He has also been a senior federal grant reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice and has spoken at regional, national, and international higher education conferences.
As a consultant, James directed a $125 million capital campaign for the education system in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and designed an alumni engagement program for over one million alumni across nine Catholic dioceses and archdioceses. He also developed and implemented annual giving programs for more than 30 state and private colleges, including American University, The Catholic University of America, SUNY Albany, SUNY Oneonta, and Union College, among others.
