With over 43 years of fundraising and nonprofit management experience, Mark Kalish
founded the fundraising and executive search consulting firm Kalish & Associates, Inc.
in 1998 to capitalize on his management and development skillset to assist a broad
range of nonprofits in meeting today’s challenges.
He has worked with over 150 organizations conducting executive search and advising on capital
campaigns, fundraising strategy, and organizational change. He has served as a consultant on capital
campaigns ranging from $10 million to $150 million.
Before establishing his consulting firm, Mark served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement at
Hunter College/CUNY and as Vice President and National Campaign Director of the American Committee
for the Weizmann Institute of Science. He managed a 49-person major gift staff in 14 offices across the
country, raising $74 million during his tenure. Previously, he was director of the Northeast Regional Office
of The Johns Hopkins University and Hospital for ten years, serving as a key member of the development
staff during two capital campaigns, which raised over $2 billion.
His other development experience includes positions at New York University. He first served as the chief
development officer for the undergraduate business school at NYU, then led the alumni relations and
annual giving programs for the university’s 13 schools and colleges and 250,000 alumni. He also served
as director of development for the New York Hall of Science, where he implemented an $8 million
campaign and two Girl Scout Councils in Washington, D.C., and Suffolk County, NY.
An active leader in the fundraising profession, Mark has served as a board member for the AFP
Foundation, and International Association of Fundraising Professionals (IAFP), and the AFP New York City
Chapter. He is the recipient of the 2016 Ralph E. Chamberlain Award, recognizing his leadership in the
philanthropic sector and commitment to AFP. Kalish held a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
designation from 2001 to 2019.
In addition to his professional positions, he has served as President of the SUNY New Paltz Alumni
Association and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation. He is a recipient
of the Association’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award.
Mark received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY New Paltz, and a master’s in public administration from
Baruch College/CUNY. He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Marxe School of Public and
International Affairs. In addition, he holds graduate certificates in Fund Raising Management from Adelphi
University and in Organization Development from the New School.
